The Mega Man who fights evil robots that all have "Man" in their names has been holding strong in its Archie Comics series for nearly 30 issues, but what about Mega Man X, the slightly different version of the character who fights robot animals?

Don't worry, fans: X is coming to the regular Mega Man series in a series of backups starting next February with issue 34.

Here's what Archie's executive director of editorial, Paul Kaminski, told IGN about the backups:

From day one, we knew we wanted to get to Mega Man X. It was just a matter of how and when. X is almost a completely different animal from the classic Mega Man franchise. You need to approach it from exactly the right perspective, style, and build-up. Now that all the pieces are in place, we can finally do all those things and make the X stories that the fans have been demanding.

Writer Ian Flynn, who will handle the backups in addition writing to the main Mega Man series, said the first few backup stories will take place months before the first Mega Man X game. He added that, if fan response is good enough, there could definitely be an X ongoing series.

Artist Patrick Spaziante will be on art duties for the backups.
