There's an innocent joy that runs through the work of Becky Dreistadt, whether she's painting anthropomorphic animals, playing with other people's characters, or chronicling the adventures of the perpetually playful tiger cub Tiggerbuttah in her webcomic Tiny Kitten Teeth. Dreistadt's gouache paintings demonstrate her remarkable talent for creating scenes that invoke their 1950s and '60s influences while still feeling fresh, drawing their inspiration from the likes of Mary Blair, Hayao Miyazaki and Simon and Schuster's Golden Books like The Poky Little Puppy. The results are charmingly retro, beautifully colored spins on anthropomorphic animals and pop culture heroes. Check out more of Dreistadt's artwork on her Tumblr and her DeviantArt gallery.
