There’s been some back and forth on the status of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger series over at Freeform; last reported to be delayed until 2018. That said, the rumor mill has been pushing hard in recent weeks, setting both a possible pilot director and some potential leads, but more likely an overall shape to casting.

Unverified reports from Season Zero have identified Secret Life of Bees director Gina Prince-Bythewood as attached to direct the pilot, as written by showrunner and Daredevil alum Joe Pokaski. A separate report from MCU Exchange lists Heroes alum Noah Gray-Cabey and star Debby Ryan as playing Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, though a casting breakdown from That Hashtag Show may reveal that the roles remain uncast:

“Tara”: Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian – Tara was a plucky southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything. Now she’s a cynic who steals from tourists to make ends meet. Life took from her. She’s going to take back. But can that light be rekindled? Series Lead.

“Travis”: Male. 18 to play 17. African American – When Travis was a little boy he was fearless. But then he made a mistake and it cost him dearly. So Travis grew up in a fear. Scared of a world he couldn’t control. So he controlled what he could. Keeping his head down, focusing on school and basketball. Locking in on fear. But is that brave boy still in there? Series Lead.

So reads the synopsis, based on title characters Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson:

The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

It remains unclear if Cloak and Dagger will be set in the overall MCU, but stay tuned for further details from Marvel and Freeform.
