‘Hey Ya!’ Is Ten Years Old Today, And You Should Celebrate With The Peanuts Gang [Video]
Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the release of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, the multi-platinum selling double album from Outkast duo Big Boi and André 3000. The effort produced several memorable tracks, but easily the most successful was André 3000's "Hey Ya!," a song that spent several months dominating radio waves, high school proms, and pretty much every kind of party imaginable in a way that maybe no other has in the 21st century.
So what does this anniversary mean, exactly? Well, three things: You are now officially old, I am now officially old, and we all have an excuse to revisit the Hey Ya!/Charlie Brown Christmas video mashup that I have loved unequivocally since the day I first set eyes on it.
ComicsAlliance Senior Editor Andy Khouri recently called this one of the "OG YouTube mashups," and I think he's right. Videos like this are a dime a dozen these days, but when this first came out I was floored, partially because I don't recall seeing anything quite like it before, but mostly because works so damn well. It's a good idea, it's edited well, and it's a lot of fun. All these years later, it's still one of my favorite things to watch on YouTube. It's just flat out cool.
And what's cooler than being cool?
