When it comes to previews for Josh Brolin and (*sigh*) Megan Fox's upcoming "Jonah Hex" film, we've been...underwhelmed to say the least thus far. So while we've yet to see actual footage from Hex's animated DC showcase short from July's "Batman: Under the Red Hood," new stills from Warner Bros. suggest that there's hope for a slightly more comics-centric take on the character.

Here's the official synopsis from Warner Bros.

"The tough-as-nails bounty hunter Jonah Hex always gets his man - until someone else gets to him first - in this case a murderous madam who wants to steal more than just her bounty from Jonah Hex."

Sure, the timing of the short seems planned to help promote the character and the femme fatale bears at least a passing resemblance to the dark-haired prostitute played by Fox, but maybe the story will involve fewer supernatural powers, submarines and horse mounted machine guns (which, admittedly sounds far more awesome than it looks in the live action "Hex" previews)?

Fans won't know how similar the "Hex" stories will be for sure until after the movie hits on June 18 and the animated short arrives in stores on July 27, but with any luck the animated outing will expand upon the quality established by "The Spectre" short from the "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" feature.
