Returning to the DC Animated fold after a lengthy absence (outside of producing), Bruce Timm will be bringing an all-new version of the Justice League to life with Justice League: Gods and Monsters. Just like other DCU animated features of late, the direct-to-video feature will be getting an action figure line. Unlike those other series however, this line will fit right in with the recent Batman: The Animated Series collection.

If you hadn't heard, Justice League: Gods and Monsters will not just be an original tale from Bruce Timm, but it will also feature three new takes on the Trinity. Superman is no longer the son of Jor-El, but rather Zod; Batman isn't a determined rich kid, but a vampiric Kirk Langstrom; Wonder Woman isn't an amazon princess, but the wife of Orion of the New Gods.

As you can see in the video above, things are quite different not just in the identities of these iconic characters, but also in the costume design. Langstrom's outfit looks more like a speedskater's or bobsledder's uniform. Superman comes from the darkest timeline, and rocks a mean trenchcoat. Orion's wife (who doesn't share much in common with the Bekka we already know, if it's even her) definitely has a Kirby-esque vibe, though she looks a bit more Female Furies than she does someone from New Genesis.

Whatever your opinion of the outfits, you can't deny how well they translate to action figure form. Timm's knack for design has always had a bit of Tothian spartaness, and that's translated into really nice, clean collectibles over the years. DC Collectibles' recent BTAS efforts (QC concerns aside) have done well to bring us the very best plastic versions of those designs we've seen, and it looks like that trend will continue with Gods and Monsters.

I'm on the fence as to just how much I need a Superman in a trenchcoat figure, but these figures are as close as I'll likely ever come to "owning" Bruce Timm art. It'll be hard not to collect them all on that basis alone. There's no release date or pricing info available yet, but if the BTAS line is any indication, these will likely run you around $25 when they do finally drop later this year.
