Marvel Revives Timely Comics As $3 Reprint Line

Marvel Comics will reprint the first three issues of several of its All-New, All-Different comics under the imprint Timely Comics. Debuting in June, Timely Comics presents the opening issues of these series in one oversized comic, at the reduced price of $2.99.

The initiative offers readers the chance to catch up on cornerstones of the Marvel Universe like All-New, All-Different Avengers and Invincible Iron Man, but it also features collections of critical darlings such as Doctor Strange and Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, providing an easy access point for readers to try something new.

It’s telling that Marvel is providing readers with three dollar collections in the same month DC launches its Rebirth initiative. Rebirth hopes to provide readers with a perfect jumping on point for DC titles, and the publisher is once again vowing to hold fast to a £2.99 price point.

In the past, Marvel has reprinted the first issues of struggling titles in the back of more popular comics for no extra cost to the reader, so it will be interesting to see if Timely Comics has a noticeable effect on sales of more recent books. Hopefully for the Marvel books currently on the bubble, the company will wait to see how successful Timely Comics is before making any decisions about a comic’s future.

Timely Comics begins in June, and if it takes off, expect to see more reprints at lower prices throughout the year.
