It's fairly safe to take the word "rising" out of the "rising star" description of Scott Snyder. After receiving critical acclaim for his award-winning American Vampire series for Vertigo, Snyder was hired to write Detective Comics, which was instantly considered one of the best super hero titles on the stands at the time. All of this led to his fan-favorite run on Batman, currently one of DC's highest selling titles. Now Snyder, perhaps the publisher's most popular current writer, is being given the responsibility of writing its flagship character, as Snyder will be teaming up with Jim Lee to launch a new ongoing Superman title in 2013.The as-yet-untitled series will be the first collaboration between Snyder and DC co-publisher Lee, who was previously working on the relaunched Justice League with writer Geoff Johns. This new Superman title will likely be at the center of DC's celebration of the character's 75th Anniversary, and will possibly coincide with the release of Warner Bros. Man Of Steel, the new Superman film set to be released in June of next year.

"As a huge fan of Scott's writing, I'm looking forward to drawing Superman as much as I am reading Scott's story as it unfolds," said Lee. "Scott's crafted a truly epic yet personal story which will demonstrate without a doubt why Superman remains the most iconic hero of the modern age. 2013 is gonna absolutely rock!"

When asked about the opportunity to write Superman, Snyder had this to say:

"I've loved Superman since I was a kid, and to be working on him now, with the great Jim Lee, is simply too thrilling for words. It's a dream come true for me on every front," Snyder said. "I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say it's the Superman story I'd write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It's an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it's a character piece for Clark - it's going to challenge him to his core. And it's definitely epic in scope, with huge action and drama - the biggest and most earth shaking action I've ever done. Can't wait to see what you all think of it. Couldn't be more grateful or excited to get the chance to make this one!"
