‘Star Wars Rebels’ May Reintroduce ‘Rogue One’ Character Saw Gerrera
Star Wars fans taking in Rogue One this weekend may have noticed some surprising connections to the animated iterations of a galaxy far, far away, including multiple Rebels easter eggs and a notable Clone Wars connection. That connection may get much more overt, as new promo art reportedly places Saw Gerrera in line for a Star Wars Rebels appearance this season.
Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, but Rebels Reactions (h/t IGN) appears to have obtained a Toys “R” Us poster that displays a slightly-younger Gerrera among the Star Wars Rebels characters, accompanied by his “Save the Rebellion, save the dream” quote:
On the one hand, Rebels’ design appears suspiciously young (the series takes place only a few short years before Rogue One), though the look is perhaps more in line with Saw’s original Clone Wars appearance, eyes and all. Then again, Season 3's January 7 return episode has reportedly been titled “Ghosts of Geonosis Part 1,” while Geonosis itself (and a few battle droids) are visible in the poster.
The poster’s perspective of the walkways above also bears a striking resemblance to the logo adorning Death Star engineers, as we saw in Galen Erso’s uniform from the film. So reads the “Ghosts of Geonosis” synopsis:
The crew returns to Geonosis in search of a missing rebel team sent to investigate suspicious activity there, and are surprised by what they find.
It could certainly make sense that Rebels would explore a bit of Gerrera’s past in a manner Rogue One didn’t have time for, though it remains to be seen if Forest Whitaker will lend his voice. Rogue One tipped its hat to Rebels in a number of ways, including a “General Syndulla” and background appearance from Chopper himself, but what should we expect from Gerrera’s return?
