It wasn't that long ago that DC's Convergence event gave a few creators the chance to return to characters that they made their mark on in past eras, and in January, it seems like that's an idea that's bleeding back into the DC Universe --- or at least to the Louisiana swamps of the DC Universe. On January 6, Swamp Thing relaunches with a new six-issue miniseries, coming courtesy of writer Len Wein, who co-created Swamp Thing with Bernie Wrightson back in 1971, and artist Kelley Jones.

And in case you were wondering, there's going to be alligator wrestling almost immediately. Check out a preview below, featuring a quick origin recap for those of you just joining us in the swamps!

While Wein's return to Swamp Thing is pretty notable given his history with the character, Kelley Jones is no stranger to Alec Holland's muddy alter-ego either. Most recently, he was the artist on the Convergence: Swamp Thing title, also written by Wein, but back in 1995, when there was a pretty heavy line that separated the horror-themed Vertigo characters from the more superheroic side of the DC Universe, Jones and writer Doug Moench brought Swamp Thing and Batman together in the pages of Detective Comics #522:

Jones's signature style, with its exaggerated anatomy and heavy shadows, lends itself perfectly to horror, and he's a pretty fantastic artist to take on Swamp Thing.

Swamp Thing #1 will be out on January 6, 2016. Here's the official solicitation:
