Rumor: Megan Fox Could Be Poison Ivy in ‘Gotham City Sirens’
From the moment a Gotham City Sirens movie was announced, the fancasting begun in earnest. A live-action Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy team-up is so exciting we can’t even stand it — especially for us ladies, who have yet to see a female-led superhero movie on the big screen post-Iron Man. (No, Jupiter Ascending doesn’t count.) When it was announced on Wednesday that David Ayer would be directing the film and that it was being fast-tracked at Warner Bros., it wasn’t long until the first cast rumor took root and started blooming: Megan Fox could be our Poison Ivy.

I like that this video explains who the Ninja Turtles are, for the benefit of those people who have been living in a cave (or maybe a sewer) since the late 1980s and have somehow avoided one of the six previous movies, five television shows, hundreds of toys, comics, and video games about these characters. “Oh Donatello is the purple one, ohhhhhh. For the last 30 years, I thought that was Raphael! My bad.”

It’s only been a few weeks since the most recent trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the sequel to the Michael Bay-produced TMNT picture of 2014, and though it also nicks the Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Til Brooklyn” for the soundtrack, there are a handful of key differences that distinguish one from the other. Specifically, that this latest spot is chockablock with soundbites that, when taken out of context, could be used by audio editors to form scathing critiques of this film. As the trailer timecounter ticks on, the negative review puns basically write themselves: “We‘re turtles, whether you like it or not.” “This isn’t working!” “We keep failing.” It’s almost like they’re challenging their harshest critics to do their worst.

If nothing else, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows certainly looks wacky. The newest trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of “new,” but it is a solid reminder that Tyler Perry and Laura Linney are actually in this movie, and that is a thing we will never forget. On the more serious side of things (as if), Arrow’s Stephen Amell makes for a pretty cool Casey Jones. So there’s that.

Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
It takes almost toxic levels of suspension of disbelief to make it through the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, the fifth and worst entry in the film franchise based on the pop culture phenomenon originally created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. That suspension of disbelief has nothing to do with mutant turtles in the sewers who learned kung fu from a mutant rat to fight a villain wearing a suit of knives. No, the TMNT are as ingrained in our imagination as any other 20th century commercial institution at this point, and if we're seeing the film at all, they've already got us in the theater—we've bought the premise like we've bought our ticket. Rather, this new TMNT suffers from the other, worse kind of suspension of disbelief: Filmgoers are asked to turn off their brain, ignore all logic and just accept the fact that every action taken by every character makes no sense at all.
