When Archie's Dark Circle imprint relaunched The Shield back in October, it did it with a pretty interesting premise. Victoria Adams is the Shield, and in a twist playing off the Shield's status as the first "patriotic" hero in comics, her career fighting for the United States of America goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, she's got a touch of the amnesia, and is being hunted by her enemies. But aside from the story, it also brought a great new design for the character, and when the second issue finally drops on February 17, some of our all-time favorite artists are going to be taking a shot at it, including "The Dude" Steve Rude and Evan "Doc" Shaner, along with the nicknameless Wilfredo Torres and David Williams. Perhaps because he wanted to reveal more of the back story, perhaps because of Frank Quitely's legendary turnaround times, Mark Millar has teamed with artist Wilfredo Torres for Jupiter's Circle, a ten-issue companion series to Jupiter's Legacy. Does it actually provide something new, or is it more of the same? (I genuinely don't know, I'm writing this part before I actually read it.) One thing's for certain: it's one-hundred percent going to be finished before Jupiter's Legacy is.

Comics artist Wilfredo Torres' wife recently passed away from cancer. You may know Torres from some of the great work he's done over the last year on The Shadow, Batman '66, Jupiter's Circle, and on covers for the King Features line at Dynamite. To support Torres and his family in their time of grief, several comics creators have decided to raise funds by auctioning off pieces of art. They'll all be posting links on how to buy their work using the hashtag #TorresBenefit on social media. All are welcome to participate, either by bidding on art or by auctioning their art.

If you spend as much time thinking about comics as I do, you probably find yourself creating hypothetical-based thought experiments about super-team line-ups and such. Usually I only share them with Chris Sims, who then goes on to turn them into an Ask Chris and get paid for my idea. [cough] But a few weeks ago, I took to Twitter to ask people who they would recruit for an all-female, seven-member Justice League. The response at the time was great, with lots of interesting variation in potential team rosters, but then the idea got a bump again when artists started posting drawings of their ideal Justice Ladies teams on Twitter and Tumblr. I've collected nine such line-ups, including my own, which kicked everything off, but you can check my Twitter feed to see all the responses I received.

If you haven't been keeping up with Batman '66, DC Comics' digital-first series based on the classic Adam West/Burt Ward television show, rest assured that it has continued to be awesome. Recent issues have seen a terrifying team-up with the Joker and Catwoman, a sinister plot to create a television adaptation of Batman's adventures, and -- perhaps most awesome of all -- the debut of a giant robot version of Batman that fought crime with the power of jet boots and rocket fists. It's... It's pretty great, y'all. But one of the more interesting things about the last few episodes -- er, issues is that they've thrown the spotlight on some of the more obscure villains from the show who never made it in the comics, like the Minstrel and Bookworm, and this week, it's the harrowing, haunting return of the Black Widow! Not to be confused with Marvel's Natasha Romanoff or Scarlett Johansson.
