Writer Caleb Goellner and artist Buster Moody are back with the fifth installment of their self-published comic Task Force Rad Squad this week. If you've never read TFRS (and you should), it's a comedic take on a tokusatsu premise. I wouldn't call it a parody of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; it's more of an off-kilter character-based story that builds from a similar premise, while taking it in absurd directions that the original never would. The Hollywood elevator pitch is that it does gives Power Rangers the Venture Bros treatment.

This preview demonstrates what I mean perfectly. Kate's checking her email on her smart phone, which leads to a huge crash that destroys both a helicopter and a giant robot cat. Witnessing this makes the giant cell phone monster think that the TFRS are all dead, which causes him to have an existential crisis about the nature of his existence. Poor guy!

Most of the rest of the issue is about Kate starting an internship at a huge marketing company, where she learns that office life is just as treacherous as fighting giant monsters, especially when your boss is demonically intense and determined to teach you the hard truths of business.

Task Force Rad Squad #5 goes on sale March 22 on Gumroad, where you can also buy the first four issues!
