One year after The Walking Dead Season 6 built toward Negan’s arrival, the leather-clad villain is once again ready to face off with Rick; this time with armies on both sides. So reveals the official trailer for Season 7 finale “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life,” along with a new clip.

Where Sunday’s “Something They Need” got Rick and co. the guns needed to sway Jadis and her junkyard gang, the first trailer for next week’s finale sees the group making their way to Alexandria (in a garbage truck, no less) to mount a defense against Negan’s next visit. Meanwhile, it looks as if Morgan and Carol have gone full Kingdom, body-armor and all, as the royal guard (and Shiva!) begin their own march in a new clip:

So reads the ultra-vague synopsis for Season 7 finale “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life”:

In the meantime, here’s how showrunner Scott Gimple previously teased the Season 7 finale:

This very claustrophobic descent into darkness, this season finale is more expansive — in tone and location and characters.

[Season 6’s finale] was the noose tightening and things getting darker and darker. This season’s finale has darkness and light, real horrific moments, betrayal, and real moments of beauty, redemption, love and friendship. It’s sort of the panoply of human and Walking Dead experience.

There’s still whatever Hilltop shenanigans Season 7 has in mind for Gregory and Maggie, but will next week’s finale end so unsatisfyingly as last year’s? Stay tuned for the latest.
