In celebration of her Ignatz nomination for 'Outstanding Mini-comic,' the fantastic Yumi Sakugawa has made the whole comic, titled Never Forgets, available to read for free -- but you only have until the 14th of September to take advantage of the offer, after which the link will be taken down. And take advantage you should. Sakugawa's a fine, fine illustrator and cartoonist, best known for her comic book, I Think I Am In Friend Love With You, and If you haven't come across Sakugawa's work before, Never Forgets is a great introduction.

Never Forgets is about a young female -- Ellie -- who's undertaken some form of plastic surgery. It seems to be a personal choice, taken to boost confidence and allow her to become the person she's always imagined herself to be, and she's now slowly recovering with the support of many online friends, who follow her documented progress. I don't want to spoil any of it for you, but it's a deftly and cleverly orchestrated narrative, that causes you to re-assess all you've read about a third of the way in. You really have to read it for yourself and just see where it takes you, how it makes you feel, and the way those emotions change over the course of the comic.

Sakugawa will be at the Small Press Expo (SPX) this coming weekend, exhibiting at the Sparkplug Comic Books table, where she'll have print copies of Never Forgets for sale, amongst other things. Publishing imprint Retrofit Comics announced earlier in the year that she'd be doing a book with them as part of their 2015 line-up, which I'm also very much looking forward to.
