A lifetime of TV fakeouts has conditioned us to question death, but Arrow may well stick with its big Laurel twist from Season 4. A new piece of production art from Season 5 gives us a glimpse into the Black Canary’s legacy, and another heroic addition to Star City.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim shared a quick piece of Arrow Season 5 artwork (or at least one possible variation) that features Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance / Black Canary officially memorialized as one of Star City’s protectors. As you’ll recall, Oliver made the questionable decision to out Laurel’s identity at her funeral, even if the monument only lists Black Canary.

It’s certainly an open question if Katie Cassidy will return in some capacity as Laurel, given The Flash made a point of not killing off Laurel’s Earth-2 doppelganger Black Siren, even if the point of notifying her family (or Oliver) was tabled by Zoom’s assault. Lest we forget, there’s also that mysterious promise Laurel asked of Oliver on her deathbed, which Stephen Amell claimed would come to light in Season 5.

In addition to The Wire star Chad Coleman taking the role of new baddie Tobias Church, wayward vigilantism appears to be a major theme for Arrow Season 5, following the return of Madison McLaughlin as a new Artemis, as well additions of Rick Gonzalez’s Wild Dog, and Josh Segarra’s “Vigilante.”

Elsewhere of Season 5, we know Stephen Amell has also downplayed the likelihood of The Flash’s time-turning twist affecting any Arrow chronology, while we’ll also have Echo Kellum elevated to series regular as Curtis Holt, and Colton Haynes reportedly returning as Roy Harper for a number of episodes.

We’ll likely hear more of Arrow Season 5 on the road to Comic-Con 2016, but what make we of the first look?
