‘Attack on Titan’ Trailer: The Popular Anime Goes Live Action
The Attack on Titan live action trailer is here and, well, it sure looks like something. A Kaiju tale with a more mythological bent, the trailer is full of people-chomping giants and katana wielding heroes doing battle in the ruins of human cities. It looks pretty nuts and we’d be lying if we said it didn’t have our attention.
The trailer lacks the polish that accompanies your typical Hollywood preview, but Attack on Titan looks utterly massive for a Japan production. Even if the material doesn’t interest you in the slightest, it’s hard to deny that the sheer scope of this thing looks impressive. And even the the visual effects aren’t quite up to the snuff with the likes of Pacific Rim and 2014’s Godzilla, the gigantic creatures at the center of this movie are still impressive thanks to genuinely creepy, unnerving design.
The road to a live action Attack on Titan movie has been long and winding. The original manga was published in 2009, with the film adaptation announced in 2011. While the production underwent development, the animated series launched in 2013, eventually making its way overseas and popularizing the title outside of Japan. Now, the plan is release two Attack on Titan movies in 2015, telling the entire saga in two blockbuster events. So if this trailer intrigues you, know that there’s a lot more where this came from.
It’s unknown exactly when, or if, the Attack on Titan movie will get released in the United States, but the anime is popular enough to ensure that it will, at some point, be available. Even if it goes straight to VOD and physical media, you’ll probably find a way to check this movie out sometime before 2016.
