On sale now is Batwoman #0, a special teaser issue in advance of the heroine's long-awaited ongoing series that launches in February. Written by J.H Williams III and W. Haden Blackman with artwork by Williams as well as Amy Reeder & Richard Friend (from the astonishingly excellent and cruelly cancelled Madame Xanadu), the story continues the saga of Kate Kane that begin in earnest in Williams and Greg Rucka's Batwoman: Elegy, winner of Eisner and GLAAD Awards for its superlative storytelling and bold depiction of DC Comics first major homosexual superhero.

Designed to be a primer for those still unfamiliar with the character, Batwoman #0 asks plainly, "Who is Batwoman?" The answer plays out in a story where the Batman himself observes Batwoman in action as he attempts to gauge her worthiness to operate in Gotham City and, more importantly, to deduce her secret identity.

Check out a five-page preview and two covers after the jump.
