When the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice took the stage at Comic-Con last summer, reports immediately surfaced that Ben Affleck was in talks to direct a new Batman solo film. And almost immediately following those reports, DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns revealed that he was indeed developing a new Batman film with Affleck. And while Warner Bros. hasn’t made anything official, and Affleck hasn’t formally signed on, the actor and new Batman has confirmed that he is working on “something” with Johns — gee, what could that be?

While speaking with DC All Access, Affleck discussed working with Johns on an upcoming comic book project, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what it is:

Geoff Johns is a brilliant guy. I consider him to be the most valued resource on all things comic book. And every time I like something in a comic I mention, he goes, ‘Oh yeah, I wrote that.’ Now I just think he’s bullsh*tting me, because he says he wrote everything. He and I are working together on something and I really am excited about it and I love him. He’s the best.

It’s likely that WB and Affleck are holding off on making an announcement to gauge reactions to the new Batman and keep the focus on Dawn of Justice, which generated $27.7 million during Thursday’s opening night preview. Zack Snyder’s superhero epic ranks sixth on the list of biggest preview openings ever, beating out last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

And while reviews of Batman v Superman have been largely negative, Affleck’s brooding, aged-up take on Bruce Wayne / the Dark Knight has been mostly well-received so far — a promising sign for any potential plans WB, Affleck and Johns are cooking up for a new solo Batman project.

But the demands of both filming and starring in a Batman movie are fairly high, and though Affleck has had no trouble pulling double-duty in the past, it’s possible that he might just co-write the script and leave the directing to someone else.
