It's been reported in Variety that "X-Men" and "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer is planning on remaking the late 70s cult hit science fiction series "Battlestar Galactica" as a feature film. Now, some of you may have noticed that the former Sci-Fi channel recently had some success and attracted an unusual degree of attention from outside typical genre fandom with its own four season long remake of the series. Those of you who are fans of the show may be asking "Mr. Singer, are you out of your frakking mind?"

The remake is being explained as a "complete reimagining" of "Galactica," with no ties to the Sci-Fi show that just aired its final episodes this year. So it's worth wondering how much this might be a studio taking advantage of the newly found name recognition for the series and just attaching it to a similar enough project with the hope that it'll quadruple the box office.

It remains to be seen whether Singer is also looking into the possibilty of a reimagination of the long dormant "Star Trek" franchise.
