You can now officially stop speculating, as Daredevil has completed the highly-anticipated task of casting Elektra. Elodie Yung, whom you may remember from G.I. Joe: Retaliation, has joined the cast of Season 2 in the role of the Greek ninja assassin and Matt Murdock’s new love interest. In addition, Netflix has also revealed the first teaser image for Season 2, promising Elektra’s imminent arrival.

Per Deadline, Yung will take on the role of the noted mercenary who was originally created by Frank Miller and debuted in issue #168 of the Daredevil comics. Elektra’s Greek heritage factors into her characterization, while Yung herself is of French and Canadian descent. It’s great to see that Netflix has chosen not to white-wash one of the most anticipated characters, particularly after the atrocious 2005 film with Jennifer Garner.

Elektra was briefly referenced in Daredevil Season 1, and her arrival in Season 2 — along with Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher — should complicate matters further for our hero. Daredevil and Elektra are romantically drawn to each other but pulled apart by their differing ideals; the former is a more traditional hero, while the latter is a violent mercenary.

So far of Season 2, we know that Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple, aka Night Nurse, while Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will take over showrunning duties from Spartacus vet Steven S. DeKnight, with Drew Goddard remaining onboard as a consultant.

Season 2 will premiere in 2016 on Netflix, but what do we think of Yung’s casting as Elektra? Seems pretty spot-on to me.
