Sculpted by the Four Horsemen, Mattel's DC Universe Classics line is a favorite among 6" action figure fans for balancing detailed sculpts with hearty amounts of articulation and often spotlighting some of the DCU's more obscure heroes and villains. But there's an element of collectibility that goes beyond the line's basic figures and even limited edition variants. The most hardcore collectors seek prototypes. Now Mattel and Warner Bros. are teaming up to give fans a chance to win paint master prototypes of select characters at auction, with 100% of proceeds going to fund the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Prototypes of Azrael/Knightfall Batman, Batman, Hawkman, Kilowog, Steel and "Clone Superboy" aka '90s Kon-El will be up for auction at the Make-A-Wish eBay page starting Wednesday, July 17 at 6 p.m. PST through Saturday, July 27 at 5:59pm PST.

These are fully painted prototypes that stand several inches taller than the final versions of the toys and are, by their very nature, one-of-a-kind. The selection of characters should especially appeal to Silver Age and '90s enthusiasts. Best of all, though, bidding on (or winning, if you're lucky) these toys will help fund granting the wish of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.

You can get a close look at all the prototypes headed to auction below.
