A new Doctor is taking over the TARDIS, and a new publisher is soon to start publishing Doctor Who comics.

IDW Publishing has held the license since 2008, and over the past six years the publisher has released an array of comics based on the new Doctor Who series, along with reprints of classic BBC Doctor Who comic strips. But the mantle has officially passed to Titan Comics -- the comics arm of Titan Books -- that will release stories based on the tenth, eleventh and twelfth Doctors this year.

"Creative and production teams will be announced in the coming weeks and the first comic books will be released in 2014," a press release from Titan states.

An IDW spokesman said that the publishers' time with Doctor Who is, in fact, finished, but the company's backlist of comics will remain available both in print and digitally.

The move echoes the recent announcement that the Star Wars comics franchise is moving from Dark Horse back to its original home at Marvel. Sci-fi juggernauts seem to be shuffling around lately. IDW seems to have its Star Trek license on lock, however.
