Fans may have had mixed reactions to Madhouse's reimagined Marvel Comics adaptations so far, but the famed Japanese animation studio's take on The CW's Supernatural plays out more like a welcome addendum to the show's six and counting seasons. Supernatural the Animation's new extended trailer builds on previously seen footage, pitting an animated Sam and Dean Winchester against demonic threats to the classic rock stylings of Kansas before giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the series that features live action stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who both seem to dig the anime.

Japanese fans will be able to watch the entire 22-episode animated series on Blu-ray and DVD when Warner Home Video beings shipping the series in chunks come February 23, March 9 and April 6. This first season essentially captures what goes on in the live action show's first two seasons, with added content fleshing out the backstories of the Winchester brothers, their friends and their foes.

Padalecki and Ackles are lending their vocal stylings to at least two English-dubbed episodes in the Japanese set, but North American fans would likely dig an entire dubbed/subbed release on their side of the Pacific before too long. Judging from the enthusiasm of both actors in the trailer, it doesn't appear that Warner Bros. would have to twist their arms to make that happen.
