Today, Dec. 2, Forever 21 is launching a new Star Wars collection in stores and online. It features a variety of clothing for women, men, and kids. Some of the products, like the sweatshirt covered in AT-ATs and X-Wings, are a little familiar, but mostly they represent a new take on Star Wars apparel with a distinctly Forever 21 aesthetic. And in the vein, the cute little shorts covered in a pattern of stormtrooper helmets are easily the most exciting thing in the line.

The best designs in the collection focus on simplicity, like a sweater with simple lineart of a stormtrooper, R2-D2, and Darth Vader, in a row on the chest. Or a tank top that just says "DARK SIDE." In a world of geek fashion where everything is overdetermined and even "minimalist" designs are often explosions of color, this kind of basic black and white aesthetic stands out.

There's also some pretty strange stuff, like a women's bodysuit that says, "Trust me, I'm a Jedi," and a hooded jumpsuit that seems to just be covered with random Star Wars text —  "Vader" on one side of the torso, "Yoda" on the opposite leg, "May the Force be with you" on an arm and so on. I mean, I'd probably wear it (I do love a hooded jumpsuit), but I'm not sure I understand the point of it.

But this is the Star Wars season, and nothing has to make sense. What matters is which products are the most appealing to the discerning fan. And what could be more appealing than drawstring shorts covered in stormtroopers?
