Funny Man Steve Agee on Board for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’
Marvel has generally been pretty good about keeping the details of their projects under wraps until the very moment that they‘re prepared for the public to know. Less known for rigorous self-discipline and professionalism is comedian Doug Benson, the host of such fine programs as the video series Getting Doug with High and the popular Doug Loves Movies podcast. On a recent installment of DLM, Benson sat down with actor Scoot McNairy to discuss the craft of acting, his recent projects, and his hilarious make-believe name. Somehow, the fact that they are mutual friends with funnyman Steve Agee came up, which led to an inadvertent reveal that the longtime Jimmy Kimmel writer was working on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. (“…[Steve] just found out because he’s in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he has to shoot that bullsh*t instead of being here with us today,” said Benson.)
With the May 5, 2017 release of the follow-up to James Gunn’s massively successful sci-fi superhero saga still a ways away, it’ll likely be a while until the nature of Agee’s character become clear. Production hasn‘t even formally begun, with the actors rehearsing in preparation for the official start of principal photography on February 11. But Agee’s involvement shouldn’t come as a surprise; the Sarah Silverman Program alum has gone on record as a good friend of director James Gunn in the past, enlisting him to read the names of his Twitter followers as part of a stunt back in 2009. Gunn recruited several of his personal buddies to make cameo appearances in the 2014 original, with Troma Films figurehead Lloyd Kaufman and Gunn’s brother, actor Sean Gunn, stopping by. It’s possible that Agee may be stepping on for a more significant role, but in all likelihood, his presence will be another nifty bullet point for IMDb’s Trivia section.
