Crack Some Shells With Good Smile’s James Jean-Inspired ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Bebop Statue
When you really think about it, the fact that we are living in a time where you can get high-end statues of Bebop from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles based on the work of illustrator and artist James Jean is a pretty surprising development. I mean, that we can get any Bebop statue would be kind of remarkable --- what with him being a mutant warthog who was created during negotiations for a toy line and all --- but a James Jean Bebop statue? That's supposed meant to link up with four other villains statues in a big diorama of evil ninjutsu? It's remarkable.
And it's happening. This week, Japan's Good Smile Company released their Jean-inspired Bebop statue for pre-order, and it's pretty fantastic.
The statue, based on Jean's illustrations and sculpted by Keiji Iwakura, is selling for ¥16,667, which currently works out to about $150 here on this side of the Pacific.
The statue will join Shredder in a line that will eventually expand to include Rocksteady and Krang as well, creating an interlinked set of statues that mirrors a similar set of the four Ninja Turtles. If you order all four, you can even get a limited edition aluminum print of the artwork that inspired the statues.
As for Bebop himself, he comes complete with a gun and knife meant for turtle-fighting, removable sunglasses, and the reveal that even the hair on his tail is cut into a pink mohawk, which I was simultaneously surprised by and not surprised by at all.
