James O’Barr Returns To The Crow With ‘Skinning The Wolves’

After almost two decades of keeping a relatively low profile in the comic industry, James O'Barr is back with a vengeance (literally) in December, writing and drawing a new mini-series for IDW starring his most famous creation, The Crow.The new story, The Crow: Skinning The Wolves, is a three-issue series that takes place long before the original Crow storyline created by O'Barr in 1981. Set in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945, the series releases the eponymous spirit of vengeance to set things right against one of the greatest evils man has ever perpetrated. "This is a story I've had planned for ages; 20 years maybe," O'Barr says of the series. "It's a tough tightrope to walk, using a concentration camp as a setting for a story, but I took care in not exploiting the situation for entertainment purposes."

The creator will write and create layouts for the story, with finished art being provided by newcomer Jim Terry, who impressed O'Barr with "his Eisneresque style" when showing him samples of artwork. "I couldn't have asked for a better story to work on," says Terry when talking about the collaboration.

Chris Ryall, IDW's Editor in Chief, is similarly excited about the series, saying that he's "been waiting to see a new Crow project from James O'Barr for a lot longer than we've had the Crow license, and what James has lined up for Skinning The Wolves and beyond is definitely delivering on those expectations."

The Crow: Skinning The Wolves launches in December.
