Disappointing though it was to learn that Megalyn E.K. couldn’t reprise her Vixen role for Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, there’s nothing wrong with a more old-school interpretation. Enter The Force Awakens star Maisie Richardson-Sellers as our new Vixen, who shares a set of powers with her granddaughter.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Richardson-Sellers will play the Season 2 regular role of Amaya Jiwe, grandmother to E.K.’s Mari McCabe, who utilizes the same mysterious powers of the Tantu Totem that afford her to access the abilities of animals. Megalyn E.K.’s schedule prevented her from reprising the role, though she’ll still provide the voice for her animated CW Seed counterpart’s second run.

It’s also possible the new Vixen is aligned with an earlier-announced Season 2 regular role, described thusly:

Also being cast for Legends Season 2 is the female member of an elite paramilitary team living in the 1940s. An African-American, she is scrutinized in her time for both her gender and race and thus has worked twice as hard to be a perfect soldier. That said, she blames herself for — and aims to avenge — the death of a team member for whom she had repressed feelings.

Elsewhere of Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, we know Nick Zano will play the Steel-y Dr. Nate Heywood, one of several new heroic characters added to replace Ciara Renee and Falk Hentschel’s Kendra and Carter Hall. Patrick J. Adams will also likely appear as Hourman, following his arrival in the first Legends of Tomorrow finale.

We’ll surely hear more of Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 on the way to Comic-Con 2016, but is a new Vixen better than none?
