Just in time for his likely prominent role in the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, Magneto is getting a starring role in his own, brand new series from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta.

The series will debut sometime next year -- USA Today didn't include a date certain in its announcement -- and it will follow Magneto as he prowls the streets looking for enemies of the mutant cause.

"Magneto in this story is very much a detective, seeking out and investigating threats to mutants before cutting loose with all the fury of a supervillain — or superhero, depending on your point of view," Bunn said.

Erik Lensherr will still be dealing with powers that are not quite up to the level of what he once had, but he'll be merciless in dishing out punishments, the writer added.

Bunn also said Magneto's relationships with his children, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and with Professor X will play a big role in the series, which will occasionally flash back to Lensherr's younger days.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.
