It's been a long wait, but the seeds of the crazily good Mortal Kombat: Rebirth demo film that hit the Web last year have finally born fruit in the form of part one of a 10-episode Web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy. This first installment continues the ultra-gritty cop drama aesthetic director Kevin Tancharoen employed in Rebirth and throws in some big budget explosions and gun-fu for added awesome.

Featuring actors from across the geekosphere, Legacy's first episode is a dream come true for fans of Mortal Kombat and genre film in general. Battlestar Galactica's Tahmoh Pennikett makes an appearance as Striker; Michael Jai White of Spawn and The Dark Knight leads the cast as Jax (or Jacks, as he was called in Rebirth), and Star Trek: Voyager's Borg bombshell Jeri Ryan returns as Sonya Blade. The first episode of Legacy also features Darren Shahlavi as Kano, who we see come eye to eye with his, well, eye. You'll see what we mean when you watch the clip.

WARNING: Features NSFW language and violence.

In Tancharoen's Rebirth, which you can see below, Jax and Sonya set Scorpion out on a mission to win the Mortal Kombat tournament and bring down Shang Tsung. It's unknown whether that story has carried over from Rebirth, as that feature was more of a proof-of-concept than anything else. However, episode two of Legacy is meant to go live next week. We will definitely be watching.
