Neil Gaiman has achieved a nearly unrivaled level of stardom for a comics creator, although some of that fame is derived not just from his work on Sandman, but his novels, children's books, and screenwriting for film and television. Nonetheless, he passes the rather rigorous mom test of mainstream recognition, which is to say even my mother knows him by name. So I was a bit surprised by the recent exchange between Neil Gaiman and a young midwestern mom who not only doesn't know who Neil Gaiman is, but somehow thought he was Neil Patrick Harris, star of Doogie Howser M.D. Enjoy!
