Black Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black) has been in the headlines lately with news that his band, Pixies, have fired new bassist Kim Shattuck, but it looks like the sort-of reunited band isn't the only project he's got going.

The singer and guitarist has co-written a new graphic novel titled The Good Inn. Josh Frank co-wrote the book with Black Francis (whose real name is Charles Thompson) and it will feature art by Steven Appleby, a cartoonist for the U.K. newspaper The Guardian.

Here's how a SelfMadeHero press release describes the book:

The Good Inn is a fantastical piece of illustrated fiction based on a yet-to-be-written soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t yet exist, which Black Francis has approached with the same characteristic eccentricity and imagination he writes a song. The teenage hero known only as Soldier Boy escapes a devastating explosion at the French port of Toulon and sets out on a bizarre journey across France. Navigating past homicidal gypsies, combative soldiers and porn-peddling peasants, he takes refuge in a secluded inn, where he finds himself centre stage in the making of the world’s first narrative pornographic film.

The Good Inn will be released in the United Kingdom in May 2014. No word on a U.S. release date as of yet.
