‘Stranger Things’ Barb Moving to The CW’s ‘Riverdale’
Just when you thought our obsession with Stranger Things’ Barb had run its course, breakout star Shannon Purser has a new role for us to obsess over. The star behind Nancy’s best pal-turned Demogorgon chow will pop up on The CW’s Archie-inspired Riverdale, taking on a familiar part.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Purser will join Riverdale for at least three episodes in the role of comic character Ethel Muggs, best known for her crush on Jughead (played on the live-action series by Cole Sprouse). The CW’s iteration will change things up by affording Ethel a relationship with someone “very different,” as well “a friendship with Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) after they team up for a revenge plot on Reggie Mantle, a bully and Archie’s rival.”
Developed by DC TV mainstay Greg Berlanti, Riverdale is described as a “surprising and subversive” take on Archie comics, including the title character, Betty, Veronica and the whole gang. Among the cast, there’s Lili Reinhart Cole Sprouse, Ashleigh Murray, Luke Perry, KJ Apa, Madelaine Petsch, Camila Mendes, Marisol Nichols and Twin Peaks alum Mädchen Amick.
Jury’s out, if Ethel suffers yet another horrific death, but is the new Riverdale role at last an end to our Barb fixation? The new series will premiere at midseason.
