‘Suicide Squad’ Puts the Spotlight on Deadshot, Rick Flag and Amanda Waller in New Clips
The trailers for Suicide Squad have done a fairly good job of letting each member of Task Force X shine, though they have leaned a bit more heavily on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto’s Joker — at least they know their target audience. But these new clips help us get to know some of the other major characters from David Ayer’s DC super-villain ensemble, like Will Smith’s Deadshot and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
Up first is a new promo (above) which features Deadshot and a pretty humorous scene with a prison guard played by Ike Barinholtz. The biggest takeaway: Deadshot doesn’t have any friends. Aww. Moving on… It takes a stone cold badass to put together a task force comprised of “the worst of the worst,” which might make Amanda Waller the baddest of them all. The second extended promo offers a closer look at Waller and Rick Flag, the leader of the Squad played by Joel Kinnaman:
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super-Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
The new film also stars Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Jay Hernandez as Diablo, with an appearance from Ben Affleck as Batman. Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
