Next week’s Supergirl will bring back Brit Morgan’s Livewire to the fold, but what of the other returning baddies we were promised? A new synopsis for the show’s Valentine’s day hour reveals how Metallo (Frederick Schmidt) and the Luthors reenter the picture, potentially setting a conflict for the rest of Season 2.

The CW released a first synopsis for February 13 outing “Luthors,” which will expand the return of Metallo (sadly without Superman this time) to include both Lillian (Brenda Strong) and Lena (Katie McGrath) Luthor. Even if Kara ends up with a pretty full plate, “Luthors” also looks to balance the hour with a Valentine’s plot for Alex and Maggie:

After Metallo (guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (guest star Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together.

One imagines Season 2 will inevitably pivot to show Lena in a more villainous light, given the “Luthor” name always has a corrupting influence. Elsewhere, Season 2 will see William Mapother returning as Parasite in the subsequent episode, to say nothing of future villains like Mr. Mxyzptlk or the Music Meister.
