Hedging Your Bets #20: Prelude to Worlds Unite
With almost 300 issues in the core series, Archie's Sonic The Hedgehog stands as the longest-running uninterrupted American monthly comic book that's currently being published. In Hedging Your Bets, I attempt to get up to speed on Sonic the Hedgehog, challenging the odds to hopefully make it all the way to the finish line. This week, we gear up for Worlds Unite, ask the question of whether any of this matters, and find more reasons to kinda love Knuckles the Echidna.

This week, hey, remember that part in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode Manos: The Hands of Fate where Tom Servo just loses it and shouts "do something!" at the screen? It's like that, but with a train robbery set piece.

So remember how a couple weeks ago, I said that Sonic the Hedgehog continuity was so weird that you could pretty much tell me anything about it and I would have no reason to doubt you? Well buckle up, kids, because our friends at Archie just sent over a preview of their next paperback collection of Sonic stories, and it's a weird one. In this particular story, Sonic becomes a werewolf. Er, werehog? Werewolfhog? Listen, it's probably for the best if you just check out the preview below!

Poor, Sonic the Hedgehog. The dude just never catches a break. Unless of course the "break" you're talking about is how his whole world is still shattered. Literally. Sonic and his friends have been working tirelessly to repair their planet since it fractured in the events after "Worlds Collide." Maybe if Sonic had time to catch his breath instead of constantly thwarting Eggman's latest machinations, Mobius wouldn't be the hot mess it still is today. But even Sonic can't do everything on his own, and this issue will also see Sally and Bunnie track down the final Chaos Emerald. You might recall the Chaos Emeralds were last used during "Worlds Unite" to give Mega Man and Sonic the power boost needed to take Sigma down for good. As long as they don't fall into the hands of Eggman, everyone should be okay, right?
