I don't know what we as a people have done right to deserve this, but we are currently living in a time of unprecedented Tom Scioli content. Not only is he doing his incredible, offbeat take on Super Powers as a backup in DC's Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye, and not only is he doing a one-shot adaptation of the movie based on his epic, thirteen-issue Transformers vs. GI Joe --- a movie that does not, in fact, exist --- but now, he's launching a brand-new webcomic, too.

It's called Princess, and it debuted today with an amazing page of hard-hitting, space-faring action.

The story is being serialized at AmBarb.com, and as the URL implies, it joins Scioli's previous webcomics, the post-apocalyptic R-E-V-E-N-G-E-!-!-! epic American Barbarian, and the Beatles-meets-Fantastic Four story Final Frontier. With those two standing as two of my favorite comics of the past decade --- seriously, not a week goes by that I don't think about Robot Dracula and the Tangle of Swords --- I've got high hopes for Princess, even though there's only one page available to read right now.

If you'd like to see more, though, Scioli provided us with an exclusive look at the pencils for the first page:

If you're interested in seeing more, Scioli is fond of posting process shots on Twitter, including his fascinating process of using separate crayon layers for coloring.

As for where Princess goes from here, well, you may notice some similarity in design and structure to the opening of a certain extremely popular space fantasy film franchise, and I'm guessing that's not entirely coincidental. Either way, it's pretty cool to see.
