Comics Alliance Gift Guide: What To Buy For A Comics-Loving Stoner
The holiday season is fast approaching, and that means it’s time to hit the shops! If you’re looking for inspiration for gifts for all the important people in your life, ComicsAlliance has put together a series of guides centered on different themes and personalities!
With marijuana becoming legal in more and more states, it's time to set aside the stigma that has long surrounded pot smoking. That also means acknowledging the subculture that's grown up around it: a subculture that includes music, films, and visual art that take the mind on a journey that THC helps facilitate. Aldous Huxley was writing about LSD in The Doors of Perception, but those doors between the known and the unknown can be opened (if not quite as widely) by a few bong hits as well.
We've selected some great gifts aimed at comics readers who are looking to expand their minds or take a journey through a world more colorful than our own. Or, at the very least, those readers who are looking for something freaky to laugh at while they wait for the pizza to arrive.
I should note that nothing on this list is meant to imply that the creators were smoking pot or doing other drugs when they created these comics and movies. Thanks to Sean Howe's Marvel Comics: The Untold Story, we know Jim Starlin was into that kind of thing, but most probably were not. This list is about the experience of the reader, and how to best find the particular trip they're looking to take.
The links on this list lead to sites like Amazon and Comixology, but we suggest that you support local comic shops and book shops where possible. If you’re not sure where the nearest comic store is, type your zip code or postal code into this website and find one close to you.
