Last month, Fast and Furious franchise star Tyrese Gibson hinted that there would be a big announcement regarding Green Lantern at Comic-Con, seemingly indicating that the actor may have been cast in WB’s upcoming reboot. That big announcement was Green Lantern Corps, which will feature not one, but two Green Lanterns. And one of them could indeed be Gibson, as the actor confirms he has met with WB about the movie.

As Gibson explains to Slashfilm, this whole thing started thanks to a group of fans who put together some Green Lantern fan art:

...I got about six direct messages on Instagram with photos of me as the Green Lantern. This particular fan who did this fan art said that there was a community of people that had been talking for like a month and a half about who they think would be the best Green Lantern and they all picked me. I said to them, ‘I took the oath, and I am going to commit myself to this process of seeing what’s possible.’

Chris Pine has been heavily rumored to play Hal Jordan, while Gibson has been pushing for the role of fellow Green Lantern John Stewart. Gibson says he has met with WB and he believes he would be the right actor for the part:

I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up.

WB’s Green Lantern Corps doesn’t hit theaters until 2020, so it could still be a year or three before we learn who’s actually signed on for the film — earlier if WB plans on introducing their new Green Lanterns in Justice League.
