‘X-Men’ Newcomer Tye Sheridan Signed on For Two More Films

Director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg have previously expressed a desire to keep the X-Men franchise going, as they transition their focus onto the younger cast of mutants. That includes Tye Sheridan, who plays Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, in X-Men: Apocalypse. According to Sheridan, that film may just be the beginning of his role in the franchise, as the up and coming actor has signed on for two more sequels.

The timeline reboot in Days of Future Past and the addition of younger mutants as familiar characters allows for the start of a new X-Men trilogy, which is something Singer and Kinberg have talked about. More recently, Singer cited Hugh Jackman’s appearance as Wolverine in Apocalypse as a “pivotal” role that signals “the birth of a new direction” — essentially tying all six films together.

But what of the future? Jennifer Lawrence has been wishy-washy about her involvement in sequels beyond Apocalypse, but the newer crop of young mutants are just getting started in the X-Men universe. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, it was revealed that Sheridan has signed on for two more X-Men sequels, which might indicate that Apocalypse serves as both the end of one trilogy and the beginning of another.

The actor also said that Days of Future Past was the first X-Men movie he saw, which should make you feel incredibly ancient:

After I saw [Days of Future Past], I just thought, “Oh my God. I’ve been missing this the whole time?!” I went back and watched all the previous films, and I quickly became obsessed.

In addition to Sheridan, the sequel’s new cast of young mutants includes Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Lana Condor as Jubilee and Ben Hardy as Angel.

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives on May 27.
