Ze Jian Shen Draws Cartoon Violence from Stranger Dimension [Art]

Although there's an element of deceptive cuteness in Ze Jian Shen's comics and illustrations, her pieces are less likely to feature cute fuzzy animals than dead bodies and punches to the face. And while sometimes this gleeful violence takes place on Earth, it seems to crop up on alien worlds as well.

You can see Shen's comics on her website, and it's a bizarre collection. Many of her one-off comics were created for VICE magazine, with all the sex and violence that entails. Meanwhile, her personal comic Party Plans spins the surreal tale of Victor Volcano's "epic birthday party," in which the birthday boy is an actual, anthropomorphic volcano. Shen is also the editor of the anthology series Dimensions, a collection of comics that features characters entering and exiting portals at the beginning and end of each comic.
