Ant-Man is not the coolest kid at the party that is the summer movie season. In fact, no one knows what to make of him. Sure, he’s related to Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he looks awfully weird and he supposedly has this dark and troubled past. So Ant-Man has to work a little harder to get noticed. He has to be seen by as many people as possible. He has to befriend one of the most popular kids in the room ... and you don’t get much more popular than Jurassic World.

Starting this week, six minutes of Ant-Man will run before every IMAX screening of Jurassic World, an agreement that seems awfully one-sided and makes us wonder what exactly went on behind closed doors. The fourth movie in this beloved series doesn’t need to have the Marvel Cinematic Universe hanging around in front of him. Still, this is exactly what Ant-Man needs. It needs to overcome its odd title and showcase its charms to an audience of excited moviegoers who are willing to shell out the big bucks for IMAX tickets. An extended sequence will be far better at showcasing the film’s potential charms than a trailer.

This is a tactic that has worked for superhero movies before, most famously with The Dark Knight, which premiered its opening scene as a preview in IMAX theaters. It’s unlikely that Ant-Man will generate the same level of cultural saturation, but every little bit helps.

Jurassic World opens this week and Ant-Man opens on July 17. You can watch a brief trailer announcing this engagement below.
