‘Arrow’ and ‘Constantine’ Crossover Still in Play, Says Stephen Amell and Showrunner
Arrow Season 3 will wind down this week as Constantine frantically scours the tube for a new home after its NBC cancellation, but could the two end up intertwined? Stephen Amell has expressed an interest in doing a crossover with DC’s demon-fighting detective, which apparently has almost come to fruition before.
Take this with all with a pinch (or pentagram) of salt for the moment but many have thrown in their lot with the #SaveConstantine, including Amell, Originals star Joseph Morgan William Shatner all pledging guest appearances in Season 2. Amell didn’t actually specify that he’d look to play the CW incarnation of Oliver Queen as we know from Arrow, but a weekend convention appearance at Wizard World Philadelphia elicited Amell frankly discussing the possibility.
Not only has Amell already shared some talks with DC (not NBC or The CW, he specifies) on the possibility of appearing within Constantine, storytelling options have also been discussed:
The reason that I was going to guest star on ‘Constantine,’ at least the idea that we were throwing around was [John Constantine]‘s an expert when it comes to the Lazarus Pit, which is now something that is a part of and will continue to be a part of ‘Arrow.’
Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim also spoke to Variety on the matter, admitting while the writers had kicked around some ideas for an Arrow/Constantine crossover, the show’s current homelessness made the prospect something of a moot point:
It would be wonderful and we certainly have a million ideas — it’s hard for me to say mainly because A: it’s not my decision to make and B: with ‘Constantine’ being shopped around to other networks… it’s really hard to make plans when a show’s kind of in limbo.
[…] A lot of the pieces are in place, except for that one final piece, which is: what’s the fate of ‘Constantine’? That’s the tricky thing. But it comes up in the writers’ room constantly — we have a number of ideas; one idea that’s particularly exciting to me. We’re in a little bit of a wait-and-see mode, like you guys are.
Constantine quickly picked up steam over landing a new home, but it remains to be seen if networks would even allow the crossover, should Arrow have the opportunity. Showrunner Daniel Cerone certainly seems optimistic about The CW as well, tweeting that more forthright answers could emerge as early as Thursday.
Well, could Constantine end up the fourth DC super-series on The CW after The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow? Would Oliver Queen and John Constantine make for a good team?
