Although Henry Cavill’s Superman defeated Zod in Man of Steel, the trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have shown that Michael Shannon’s not really done with the franchise just yet. As Shannon confirms in a new interview, Zod will indeed return…though he won’t be quite how we remembered him.

In the Batman v Superman trailers, we’ve seen a brief glimpse of Zod — though he appears to be dead, obviously. If previous rumors are true, then Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor (and Ben Affleck’s Batman) is seeking Kryptonite to defeat Superman, which means he may find himself face-to-face with the corpse of Zod for such purposes.

It’s unclear if Zod will be resurrected in some way, but in a delightful interview with Vulture, Shannon revealed that not only is his villain returning for Batman v Superman, but there’s something very different about him this time around:

I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the fuck is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’

That story is a little too strange to be fiction, but what the heck is Zod doing with flipper hands?! Shannon went on to say that he hasn’t seen the trailers yet, so he doesn’t know what’s been revealed:

Well, I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer. I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.

Alive or dead, flipper hands or regular hands, we’ll see Zod again when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
