Cast Party: Who Should Star In A ‘Fallen Angels’ Movie?
Welcome to Cast Party, the feature that imagines a world with even more live action comic book adaptations than we currently have, and comes up with arguably the best casting suggestions you’re ever going to find for the movies and shows we wish could exist. This week we're going back to the 80's to look at Fallen Angels, a New Mutants spin-off written by Jo Duffy with art by Kerry Gammill, Marie Severin, Joe Staton, and Tom Palmer.
The best way to do Fallen Angels would be as a 1980s period piece, if only so you don't have to rethink the costumes. Moon Boy would be best accomplished with make-up, while Warlock would need to be motion-captured, and of course Devil Dinosaur and the lobsters Bill and Don would be entirely CGI. We might want practical puppets for some shots, but that can be left up to the director.
I'd like to see this movie directed by Edgar Wright. He'd bring the same capacity for fast-paced comedic action that made Scott Pilgrim Vs the World into a cult classic, and he'd finally get to complete a film based on a Marvel comic.
Three of the performers listed below are pop musicians. That's not something I planned, it's just what Fallen Angels demanded. But if Wright wants to give them a musical number or two over the course of the film, I think that would fit the tone just fine.
Jordan Fisher as Sunspot
Fisher hasn't really had a lead role yet, but he's young, charismatic, and perfect for Sunspot.
Ben Schwartz as Warlock
Obviously this role will be mostly voice and some motion capture, but I really think Schwartz's comedic energy can bring something to the part. We'll also get to see Schwartz's face in the scenes when Warlock disguises himself as a human.
Demi Lovato as Ariel
From her natural glitter to her distaste for pants, Ariel is a character who demands to be played by a pop star. Lovato has just the glamorous look to pull it off.
Charice Pempengco as Chance
Charice is a pop singer too, but she's also got the same tomboy look as Chance.
Jim Rash as the Vanisher
Despite his history as a supervillain, the Vanisher is a purely comedic character here. Jim Rash is a hilarious performer, and he's used to wearing ridiculous clothes.
Moises Arias as Gomi
Arias is building a career playing weird little nerdy guys, and Gomi's best friends are lobsters.
Miley Cyrus as Boom Boom
Boom Boom is my favorite super-hero, so I've given this a lot of thought. Miley isn't my favorite celebrity, but she has the perfect look and weirdo vibe to play Tabitha Smith.
Sam Claflin as Jamie Madrox
Claflin will be such a handsome Madrox that you'll be disappointed to realize he's not twins.
Molly Quinn as Siren
Quinn is a natural redhead, and to be honest that was my first priority for Siren.
Samm Levine as Moon Boy
The truth is, Levine is a little old for the role. But he'll be made up as a prehistoric ape man, so it's probably okay. He's got a great voice, and he seems like he'd be up for riding a T. Rex.
Timothy Spall as Unipar
Spall is an odd-looking man to begin with, and all glammed up as the leader of Coconut Grove he'll really be a sight to see.
