Under The Surface Of ‘Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye’ #1 [Preview]
Who is Cave Carson? He's a heroic spelunker from Silver Age DC Comics, who first appeared in 1960's Brave and the Bold #31. Who is Cave Carson? He's the star of Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye, an upcoming series from Gerard Way's new Young Animal line. Who is Cave Carson? The truth is, he doesn't seem really sure himself.
Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye #1 finds Carson understandably distraught on the day of his wife's funeral. As the story opens, he's flashing back to his time exploring strange worlds under the Earth.
At first it seems to be a real experience recorded by his cybernetic eye, but then it turns into a nightmare, implying that it might be all in his head. Precisely what's going on is obviously the mystery being set up for the series, along with the question of what Cave Carson is going to do next. He thought his subterranean adventuring days were behind him, but that seems unlikely now.
Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye #1 is written by Gerard Way and Jon Rivera, with art by Michael Avon Oeming. It arrives online and in stores October 19. Check out the preview pages and variant covers below.
Here's the official word from DC:
Cave Carson has done it all: survived countless adventures below the Earth’s surface, met the love of his life, and gotten a cybernetic eye...somehow. After he and his wife, Eileen, sent their only daughter Chloe off to college, Cave was ready to become just another mundane member of the surface world. That is, until Eileen got sick. Newly widowed, Cave tries to piece his life back together when a knock on the door of his secret underground lab pulls him back into a past that he and Eileen thought they had left buried deep within the Earth.
Adding to his troubles, Cave must determine if his recent hallucinations and visions are the work of his mind or his mysterious cybernetic eye. (Spoiler: It’s the eye.)
Written by Gerard Way (DOOM PATROL, Umbrella Academy) and Jon Rivera (Heartbreak), and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming (Powers), this is an absurdist action-adventure story unlike any other!
