October is finally upon is, and here at ComicsAlliance, and one of the best parts of the month is gearing up for Halloween with costumes! It's the one time of year when even people like me who could never cut it in our Best Cosplay Ever feature can drop by the local department store and walk out with the ability to dress up as our favorite characters.

But is that really a good thing? I have my doubts, which is why I'm spending every day taking on the store-bought costumes inspired by our favorite things. Today, we're running down the costumes based on Adventure Time, featuring Sexy Lumpy Space Princess and the best Finn and Jake costume ever!

Costume 1: "Sassy" Lumpy Space Princess:

I'm pretty sure that the entire Internet had a minor collective freakout over this thing when it first hit shelves a few weeks ago, and it's pretty easy to understand why. It's more than a little creepy that the all-consuming elder thing that is the Halloween costume industry has decided to oversexualize a character who is literally a floating purple blob from a cartoon for ten year-olds.That said, there's another part of me that is completely stoked this costume exists, if for no other reason than this is exactly the costume Lumpy Space Princess herself would wear. It is her exact self-image, translated to something you can buy in a store.

Plus legs, I guess.

Costume 2: Princess Bubblegum:

Princess Bubblegum, meanwhile, gets a pretty shockingly on-model costume. I will say, though, that one site that I was looking for had this one listed as "Adventure Time Bubble Princess."

I have never seen something so close to being the right words that falls so completely short of the goal. Step your game up, online Halloween costume retailers. It's not like you're Amazon over here, people are only looking at you ONE MONTH OUT OF THE YEAR.

Costume 3: Jake the Dog

Welp, looks like we have this year's winner for Best Embarrassing Dad Costume. I know that Jake's magic powers are left pretty intentionally vague on the show, but has it ever  been mentioned that he can shapeshift into a tunic that does not really go that well with black jeans? Was that in Season 1?

Costume 4: Finn the Human

THIS COSTUME IS FRIGGING AMAZING.

I've done the store-bought costume roundup here at CA for the past few years, and I can tell you that it's pretty rare to see a costume that combines a good idea (Finn riding Jake into battle) with a good execution (it actually looks pretty rad!)and something that's genuinely horrifying (Finn's spaghetti legs emerging from the torso of a grown adult).

It doesn't hurt that they got a model who looks like an absolute maniac, either. Please do not stab me with that toy sword, sir.
