Dark Horse Digital Now Open for Business with Free Comics and More

The much anticipated Dark Horse Comics Digital Storefront is now live. As demonstrated at C2E2 in March, Dark Horse is selling single-issue digital comics for $1.99 via its free iOS application for iPad and iPhone as well as via the Web. The store launches with a number of free comics and promotional initiatives, including a contest to win an iPad 2.
Read on for the full list of available titles, which includes the entire Hellboy library, massive amounts of Conan comics, The Umbrella Academy and more. The Dark Horse Comics app operates similarly to other digital comics platforms we've seen in recent times in that it offers a panel-by-panel reading mechanism and an iTunes-like interface. What sets the app apart is that all your downloads can be stored on Dark Horse's servers, which frees up hard drive space for new purchases. You will always have access to that material via your iOS device, Web, and presumably any other platforms Dark Horse will port the store to. At the moment, Android users can access their Dark Horse digital comics via the Web browser application, although a native Android app is on the way.
Signing up for the Dark Horse Digital newsletter helps unlock free downloads of Criminal Macabre, Abe Sapien: The Drowning, Joss Whedon's Fray, The Umbrella Academy and Mass Effect, and enters users into a contest to win an iPad 2.
