Digital comics have been an important part of the mobile space since the iPhone first took off. While the early versions of reader apps weren't always the best, in the last eight years we've come quite a long way, seeing an evolution right alongside smartphones and tablets to provide better experiences for the readership. This week, Google is shaking things up with its Google Books app, introducing new tools to make it a better space for comics.

It's been nearly a year since Marvel Entertainment announced at SXSW 2013 that it was going to add adaptive audio to its digital comics experience, but now the dream has become a reality.

A mondo medley of both new and already high profile manga series are about to be available digitally for free by way of Japanese publisher Kadokawa. Launching on PC and mobile devices via an app on March 22, Kadokawa's new ComicWalker service will come stocked with scads of titles in Japanese, Chinese and English including Sgt. Frog, Gundam: The Origin and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Diamond Comic Distributors is calling it quits on its digital storefront program for brick-and-mortar retailers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an e-mail sent to retailers stated that "Diamond Digital has not gained enough traction in the marketplace to continue." The official shut-down date is the end of the month, Friday, Feb. 28.
